The President's Report Welcome
members to the year of the Tiger. The society will welcome in the
year with a dinner at the Wingbo restaurant. The ACFS year will
end the old year (The Bull) with the Consul General's invitation to
your committee to attend a function at the Consulate and these are
always excellent. This may be the final year for Consul General Li
Shugang in Perth, and many of the older members remember his first
term in Perth. I would be pleased to hear from members with happy
memories of Mi Li and we can put together a wonderful tribute to
this fine representative of the Peoples' Republic of China. 2009
was a great year for ACFS (WA) as we joined with twenty-seven China
associated organizations in Perth to commemorate the 60th
anniversary of the Peoples' Republic of China with a celebration
dinner at the Burswood on 1st October and three nights later, a
magnificent cultural show at the Burswood Theatre. Congratulations
to all who took part. On my first entry as a foreign expert into
China in 1990, I noted in my diary that it was like stepping back
one century. On my most recent visit, I realised that in many
spheres of endeavour China has already outstripped many western
nations. We congratulate the people of China on their spectacular
achievements since 1949 and hope that in the years ahead that
friendship between our two nations will
continue.
